Educational Component: Your event must include an aspect that raises awareness about Pakistani culture.
Attendance: APF welcomes submissions from PSAs of all sizes and stages of evolution. Provide the number of attendees or people reached and their e-mail addresses, keeping track of this information on an excel sheet as attendees arrive at your event. We will consider the percentage of attendees relative to the total number of PSA members.
Acknowledgement of APF:
Mention: "This event is in collaboration with the American Pakistan Foundation (APF), an organization dedicated to empowering the Pakistani American diaspora through initiatives such as civic engagement, youth empowerment, professional development, and more.”

This interactive American Pakistan Foundation (APF) Leadership Council (LC) virtual information session will be hosted by Sadia Malik, APF LC Youth Development Team Manager and Faaiz Masood, APF LC Northeast Network Ambassador. Together they will provide attendees with an introduction to the APF LC and explain opportunities for involvement.
This session will focus on our APF LC youth development initiatives and pathways for new LC youth members. The audience is primarily young professionals, college students, advanced high school students, and parents or guardians who wish to learn about our offerings. Yet any potential LC applicant is invited to join. There will be plenty of time for robust conversation and your questions. We look forward to meeting you!
This APF GOTV event will convene Pakistani American advocates, and they will explore the intersection of their advocacy work with voting and democratic participation—sharing personal experiences and unique insights. The panelists will discuss the challenges and successes they’ve encountered while shaping public policy and driving social change. Hosted by Khadijah Zahid and moderated by Anaya Sheikh, this conversation promises to offer valuable perspectives on the powerful role of advocacy in electoral engagement and the broader democratic process.
Our panelists include:
Raeena Lari is a Governing Board Member of the Santa Clara County Board of Education. She is an advocate for raising awareness and funding for better diagnostics and therapeutics for Tick-Borne Diseases, and co-leads a support group for impacted individuals. Raeena's primary focus in all her work is on health justice and inclusion.
Wardah Khalid is a policy analyst, activist, and public speaker. She currently serves in the US Department of State and is the Founder and Board Chair of Poligon Education Fund, a national civic education and advocacy organization strengthening American Muslim engagement with Congress. Wardah has significant experience working with federal policy makers on refugee and immigration issues, civil rights, and Middle East policy.
Dr. Sadaf Jaffer is a scholar and policy expert with 15+ years of public engagement, higher education, and governmental expertise. Dr. Jaffer is an Associate Research Scholar and Lecturer at Princeton University where she teaches courses on South Asian, Islamic, and Asian American Studies. Dr. Jaffer previously served in New Jersey's state legislature where she represented the 16th Legislative District. She championed increased funding for 9-1-1 call centers, teen suicide prevention programming, and translation services. Her legislative priorities included laws on election integrity, transportation, reproductive healthcare, and gun safety.
Faran Sharif currently works as the community liaison to New York State Senator James Sanders Jr, who represents the 10th Senatorial District in the New York State Senate. Sharif’s motivation for civic engagement and politics goes back to when he received his first phone in middle school. He was then exposed to online Islamophobic content and anti-Pakistani sentiment that taught him the importance of representation of Muslim and Pakistani American communities in spaces of community engagement and in our political systems. This incident motivated Sharif to pursue his education; he is now an emerging community leader who intends to use his skills to be part of improving his community and raising voices of the unheard.

Shamaeel Ansari is a Pioneer in the Fashion Industry of Pakistan that continues to forge South Asian fashion’s esprit de corp. Founder of a high-end luxury brand under the name of Shamaeel Ansari since 1987 that carries a signature attitude towards its clothing, reflection, and its expression. She has worked across a network of international trade fairs such as Market Week NYC, Heimtex Germany, and Magic U.S.A which led her to bring Donna Karen to Pakistan while developing products for companies such as Club Monaco, Canada, and Eddie Bauer. Pioneer in Pakistan’s designer lawn market through collaboration with the Crescent Group of Industries from 1998-2004 and Sitara Group from 2009 to 2013. She led the lawn industry for the international supply of Mass Apparel Fabric (Shamaeel-Sitara Premium Lawn) and ranked for three consecutive years among the Top 5 in the lawn market.
Zainab Salman spread her wings in 2011, she has established herself as one of the leading designers targeting Asian, Middle Eastern and European markets. Embracing the beauty of the strength of feminine narratives, Zainab Salman is known for her empowering silhouettes that are exquisitely handcrafted with fine embellishments, embroideries, cut-work and appliques. Her work has touched its zenith of success both nationally and internationally. Zainab Salman’s forte lies in the blend of exaggerated cuts and ruffled tailoring with a fusion of colors and rhythm. Zainab started her journey as the founder of the brand 10 years ago. She holds a degree in specialization in Fashion Marketing from the pioneer fashion institute of Pakistan, PIFD. To pursue her dreams further, Zainab went to the home of haute couture maisons, Paris and got her training from Mod’spe that eventually carved her way in the global fashion industry. The other half of the panel features Hania Chima. As a Creative Film Producer, Hania has played a pivotal role in bringing compelling stories to life, including co-creating and producing "Laal Kabootar," Pakistan's submission to the 2020 Oscars.

Hania Chima is a part-time Executive Administrator at APF. Outside her work here she is an award winning Film Producer based in New York, actively engaging in the film & TV industry. As a Creative Film Producer, she has played a pivotal role in bringing compelling stories to life on screen. Notable achievements include co-creating and producing "Laal Kabootar", Pakistan's submission to the 2020 Oscars. A feature crime-thriller theatrically released in Pakistan and Australia, that played at International film festivals including Palm Springs Film Festival, Chicago South Asian Film Festival, and it won best film awards at Vancouver South Asian Film Festival and Seattle's Tasveer Film Festival.
Bilal Sami is a Pakistani-American filmmaker whose multifaceted career spans acting, writing and producing. As a producer, his credits include the upcoming David Blaine documentary series titled ‘Do not attempt' by Imagine Entertainment for Disney+, the critically acclaimed feature 'Dobara Phir Se’ (Deja Vu) which he also wrote, and the Pakistani crime thriller 'Laal Kabootar’ (The Red Pigeon) on which he was a consulting producer. He also directed the music documentary 'Dhun', featured at London's Alchemy Festival at the Southbank Centre, London.
In collaboration with artist Rashid Rana (recipient of the Sitar-E- Imtiaz — Pakistan’s highest civilian honor), Sami created the public art project 'Stories We Tell' for the inaugural Lahore Biennale in 2016. After running his own boutique production company out of Lahore, he established the New Media and Syndication divisions of Middle Eastern media giant Geo Entertainment between 2018 and 2020, and has since been involved in projects across Pakistan, UAE, UK and the US. Sami began his career as a teenage television actor in Pakistan and received a Fulbright scholarship for his MFA in Film. With a lifelong passion for storytelling, he has since then steadily built up his experience writing, producing and directing film and TV on both sides of the Atlantic.
