The Biden Administration on U.S.-Pakistan Relations: What to Expect?

Please join the Atlantic Council’s South Asia Center, the American Pakistan Foundation, and The NewsRun for a discussion of what we can expect of U.S.-Pakistan relations from the administration of U.S. President-elect Joe Biden. A panel of esteemed experts will discuss the bilateral relationship; U.S. interests in South Asia; the role of great power competition; and other issues.

SPEAKERS

Shamila N. Chaudhary
was appointed President of the American Pakistan Foundation in August of 2019. Chaudhary is a foreign policy analyst specializing in South Asia who previously served at the White House National Security Council and the State Department Office of Policy Planning.

Dr. Vali Nasr
is the Majid Khadduri Professor of International Affairs and Middle East Studies at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University. Between 2012 and 2019 he served as the Dean of the School, and between 2009 and 2011 as Senior Advisor to U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Ambassador Richard Holbrooke between 2009 and 2011.

Shuja Nawaz is a political and strategic analyst. He is a Distinguished Fellow, South Asia Center at the Atlantic Council In Washington D.C. He has worked on projects with RAND, the United States Institute of Peace, The Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Atlantic Council, and other leading think tanks on projects dealing with Pakistan and the Middle East. In January 2009 he was made the first Director of the South Asia Center at The Atlantic Council of the United States.

Ambassador Robin L. Raphel is an expert in political, security, and economic development issues in South Asia and the Middle East. As a career Foreign Service officer, she worked for nearly 40 years in foreign affairs agencies, including the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Agency for International Development, and U.S. Department of Defense.

Anam Khan (moderator) has a Bachelor’s degree in English from Smith College, and a Master’s degree in Strategic Communications from Columbia University. She has extensive professional experience writing for startups, media organizations, and nonprofits. She launched her own digital media startup called The NewsRun, an e-mail newsletter that provides short and simple summaries of Pakistan’s top news.
