NOW ACCEPTING ROLLING APPLICATIONS FOR THE GOTV 2024 PROGRAM internship

DESCRIPTION

The American Pakistan Foundation is pleased to announce the call for applications for our Get Out The Vote (GOTV 2024) internship program. This virtual internship has been designed to allow students and young professionals to participate in APF’s Get Out the Vote Initiative and gain valuable experience in the civic engagement space for approximately 6-8 months.

The APF GOTV 2024 campaign focuses on the following goals:

  • Target the Pakistani American diaspora while encouraging the South Asian diaspora and the broader Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in the United States to vote in the U.S. presidential elections;

  • Connect with voting-age Pakistani-Americans who could pledge to vote in November;

  • Create and circulate resources that elevate awareness in the United States of Pakistani Americans as a voting bloc;

  • Convene community, student, business and public leaders to share experiences and lessons learned from their civic activities; and

  • Raise the profile of Pakistani Americans engaged in parallel get out the vote efforts across the United States.

We are looking for interns for two different aspects of the program - GOTV Interns and Research Interns.

Responsibilities

Here are the descriptions. Both positions are expected to have a 5-10 hour weekly commitment.

GOTV Intern:

  • Cycle through Program Administration, Partnerships, and Communications teams to assist in various ways through project management, event planning, partnership coordinations, social media content creation and outreach and field organizing.

  • Work under the guidance of the APF Director of Operations, GOTV Program Manager and GOTV Digital Strategy Manager.

  • Demonstrate ingenuity and creativity by brainstorming/introducing ideas for online and in-person events, social media programming, and field organizing strategies.

  • Research and plan collaborations with relevant partners including cultural, advocacy, and other civic organizations.

Research Intern:

  • Assist in conducting literature reviews, data mapping, and writing research blog posts.

  • Design and conduct surveys to better understand Pakistani Americans’ approach to civic engagement and involvement in voting/sociopolitical issues.

  • Participate in writing a collaborative report under the guidance of the Research Manager.

  • Identify and propose topics for webinars, discussion forums, articles, and blog posts.

  • Gain relevant research experience while contributing to some of the first documents and reports that exclusively focus on Pakistani Americans’ civic engagement and participation.

Qualifications

  • Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in College, Graduate Students and Recent Graduates with a background in Political Science/International Affairs or a strong interest in Civic Engagement and Advocacy Work.

  • Previous experience in Phone Banking, Canvassing, Campaign Strategy, Research, Advocacy, and Organizing work preferred.

  • Strong research, analytical, and critical thinking skills, as interns are expected to conduct in-depth analysis and contribute valuable insights to weekly meetings and various projects.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as interns may need to write reports, research documents, or create infographics.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to take initiative, as interns are often expected to drive their individual projects and contribute actively to the larger GOTV team.

    • The internship will occur between February and November 2024, with some flexibility on the beginning and end date. If you or your institution have any length constraints, please share them.

civic engagement exposure

  • Interns undergo experiential learning to gain insight into the voter turnout / civic engagement process and nonprofit organization coordination by engaging in every aspect of programming from developing GOTV strategy, creating social media content, event planning, leading meetings, and improving writing and research skills.

  • Stipend - $500 stipend contingent upon proper completion of the program.

  • Letter of Experience - Interns will receive a letter signed by the Program Manager and APF Director of Operations aiding in their career development.
