APF announces new appointments to Board of Directors

APF is announcing the appointment of three new board members. Asad Jamal, Faysal Sohail, and Shamila Chaudhary have been appointed to the APF board, bringing the total number of board members to 11. Asad Jamal is Founder and Managing Partner of ePlanet Capital and a pioneer in global venture capital. Faysal Sohail is General Partner at CMEA Capital and a venture capitalist dedicated to promoting global entrepreneurship and education. Shamila Chaudhary is an Analyst at Eurasia Group, a Senior Fellow at the New American Foundation, and has over a decade of experience with the U.S. government.

APF presented discussion “Development and Diplomacy: A Way Forward for U.S.-Pakistan Relations” with USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah and U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter

APF presented a public discussion forum, “Development and Diplomacy: A Way Forward for U.S.-Pakistan Relations”, with USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah and U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter on September 19th in New York City. The event was co-hosted with the Asia Society and was held in conjunction with the opening of the 66th UN General Assembly. Dr. Raj Shah and Ambassador Cameron Munter shared their unique perspectives on U.S. diplomatic and civilian assistance efforts in Pakistan. This interactive forum also provided our community an opportunity to engage with senior U.S. representatives and to share ideas and questions.

The event was very well-attended by a diverse audience of over 100 guests, including APF board members, partners and supporters, members of the Pakistani American diaspora community, development practitioners, academics, senior media representatives from American and Pakistani news organizations. Dr. Shah and Amb. Munter each spoke for a few moments about their work and then sat down for an interactive discussion with moderator Dr. Hassan Abbas, Professor, The College of International Security Affairs, National Defense University; and Senior Advisor, Global Policy Programs, Asia Society. The discussion was broadcast live on a video webcast.

PepsiCo Foundation announces $700,000 Grant to APF for Flood Relief Program in Pakistan

PepsiCo Foundation announces their support for APF's Flood Recovery and Rehabilitation Program in Pakistan. Speaking at an event in Islamabad, APF's CEO Awais Khan shared how this grant from PepsiCo Foundation has enabled APF to address immediate needs in re-building Pakistan after the floods last year. PepsiCo Foundation's support at a time of immense need is a testament to their commitment to Pakistan, and APF is proud to work with our partners to further our mission of supporting Pakistan's long-term development.

American Pakistan Foundation and Music for Life Present: Beethoven for the Indus Valley, January 2011

The concert was introduced by Dr. Nafis Sadik followed by a radiantly inspiring message by Jacqueline Novogratz, founder and CEO of Acumen Fund, focusing on the spirit and resilience of the Pakistani people and on the transformative work that Acumen Fund is carrying out in Pakistan. Images from Novogratz’s own travels in flood-ravaged Pakistan accompanied the Symphony. Net proceeds from the concert benefited Acumen Fund’s work in Pakistan.

APF Brings Together Forum at Asia Society on Floods Crisis

APF brought together a forum at Asia Society in summer 2010 with Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah, foreign minister of Pakistan Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and philanthropist George Soros. The forum served to highlight the humanitarian work being done in the aftermath of the floods and to make an emergency appeal for more aid for the crisis.
